The challenge for heating engineers

Boiler services, installation work and emergency breakdowns need different follow-up timing. One generic campaign can reach the customer too early.

Choose a useful moment

After the service is complete or the installation has been handed over. Keep an emergency repair request separate from sales promotions.

A neutral invitation to adapt

Thank you for choosing us for your heating work. If you would like to share feedback about your experience, please use: [review link].

This is example wording. Replace the link with your own direct Google review link. For messages that count as direct marketing, include the required opt-out and check that you can lawfully send them.

Handle feedback with care

Do not include appliance serial numbers, home addresses or safety records in public replies.

Keep the public review option available to everyone. Private contact must remain an additional choice, including for unhappy customers.

What to review each month

Look at new reviews, unanswered questions and recurring comments about appointment updates, explanations of controls and clarity of the service record.

These are process checks, not promises of more bookings, better ratings or higher rankings.

Start with tools you can use today

Before automating

Agree the trigger, duplicate suppression, sending limits, opt-outs and data permissions. Test the connection to your booking or job system during your free trial before relying on it.

Reviews through the heating season

Heating engineers have very seasonal demand. Autumn and winter bring breakdowns and urgent call-outs; spring and summer bring installations and services. Your review routine should cope with both.

Breakdowns

A customer with no heat or hot water is grateful when you fix it, but rarely in the mood to review at 9pm. Ask the next morning by text, when the house is warm again.

Boiler installations

Ask after commissioning and once the customer has received the benchmark checklist and warranty registration. That way the review covers the whole job, including the paperwork.

Annual services

Service customers are often loyal for years. One request after their first service with you is usually enough; avoid sending one every year.

Gas Safe and credentials

Customers check Gas Safe registration. Reviews that mention the engineer explaining safety checks clearly add reassurance. Do not write reviews for customers or suggest wording.

Landlord gas safety certificates

For landlord work, the landlord or agent is your customer, not the tenant. Invite the person who booked and paid.

Handling a complaint

If a repair did not last or a part was delayed, explain publicly that you will look into it and contact the customer directly. Readers value a quick, polite response more than a perfect record.
